Spectator Guidelines

Guidelines for Spectators – A good spectator at an athletic contest:
  1. Shows interest in the contest by enthusiastically cheering and applauding the good plays or performance of both his/her team and that of the opposition.
  2. Shows proper respect for opening ceremonies by standing at attention and by remaining silent while the National Anthem is being played.
  3. Understands that attending a game is a privilege to observe the contest, not a license to verbally attack others or be generally obnoxious.
  4. Does not boo, stamp feet, or make disrespectful remarks toward the players, coaches, or officials.
  5. Learns the rules of the game, developing an understanding and appreciation for situations that take place in a contest.
  6. Obeys officials and faculty supervisors who are there to keep order.
  7. Stays off the floor, field, or contest area at all times.
  8. Does not disturb others by throwing materials around the building, playing field or bleachers.
  9. Shows proper respect for officials, coaches, cheerleaders, and contestants as guests in his/her community and extends all courtesies toward them.
  10. Knows that noisemakers of any kind are not proper for indoor events.
  11. Pays attention to the halftime program and does not disturb others who are  watching.
  12. Respects public property by not causing damage to equipment or facilities.
  13. Knows that school officials reserve the right to refuse attendance of those whose conduct is inappropriate.
  14. Refrains from the use of any controlled substances (alcohol, drugs, etc.) before, during, and after the contest while on school property.


 
General Guidelines for Bainbridge-Guilford HOME Contests
(Basketball, Wrestling, and Volleyball)
  • Smoking is NOT permitted in the school building NOR on school grounds.  If you must smoke, you need to leave school property.
  • Should fire alarms go off, vacate the building immediately.  Exit doors are labeled in each gymnasium.
  • NO GLASS containers are allowed in any of the gymnasiums, particularly during athletic contests.
  • We have allowed food and drinks in plastic containers into the bleacher areas, but in order to continue this opportunity, we need your help by having you be responsible for bringing all garbage out with you.  THANK YOU!
  • Foot stomping or kicking the bleachers is not allowed.
  • By league rules, noise making device are NOT allowed at indoor events.
  • All signs and posters will be in good taste and of a positive influence.
  • Profane gestures and/or language will not be tolerated in any form- NO WARNINGS- violators will be removed from the building.
  • Heckling other players or game officials is inappropriate behavior at high school contests.  Violators will be asked to refrain only once.  A second offense will result in removal from school property.
  • Cooperate with chaperones and their request to modify inappropriate behaviors.   B-G guidelines for public conduct on school property prohibit the disruption of school activities by individuals and prohibits the refusal to comply with any reasonable order by school officials performing their duties.
                
Specific Guidelines for Basketball
  • The B-G student section is in the bleachers across from the HOME team bench.
  • Noises or actions meant to distract participants, especially during free throw situations are contrary to the purpose of high school athletics and will not be tolerated.
  • NO WARNINGS – Violators will be removed from the building.
  • Only players should be on the court before games and during halftime unless special promotions are taking place.
Specific Guidelines for Volleyball
  • Volleyball etiquette requires players and spectators to be quiet during the act of serving.
